We Need Absolute Truth
If you dig deeply enough, at the root of every wounded part of the heart is an absolute belief about self. You do not find, “I wasn’t loved.” You find, “I am not loved. I do not have value, I am not enough for the life in front of me.” Every person holds absolute beliefs about themselves. And when those beliefs form from childhood wounds, they inevitably need to change.
Absolute beliefs about self are changed by experiencing absolute truth. That truth cannot take the form of facts about truth. The part of the mind that processes objective facts, the left hemisphere, does not connect to life. It connects to ideas and abstractions of life. You could say the left hemisphere processes a map of the forest while the right hemisphere experiences the reality of the forest. These absolute beliefs about self were formed from things we experienced. They will be changed when we experience a different absolute truth about ourselves. The source that delivers that experience must be one that delivers absolute truth.
Our source of absolute truth is the one whose very name is “I Am.” Healing ministry facilitates an experience of absolute truth through the living presence of I Am in the places where those negative, absolute beliefs about self are lodged.
God Delivers the Truth We Need
Isaiah 40, and almost all of Jesus’s self-testimony, demonstrate that God’s ultimate purpose is to release the living presence of God within us, transforming our hearts and guiding our lives. Both Jesus and Isaiah say that the voice of God (his personal communication) is the vehicle that carries God’s authority to accomplish his purposes in people (Is. 55:11).
God’s “voice” is not always verbal. It can be emotional impressions, mental pictures, epiphanies of mental clarity, his presence being felt where it was previously blocked, and more. Ministry helps you surface the places in your heart that hold problem-causing, absolute beliefs about yourself and helps you experience his transformational truth about who you truly are in each of those places. This allows exiles to mature into functional adults who are no longer distinguishable as separate parts. Managers and firefighters are then able to refocus and invest in a functional life rather than protecting, medicating, and managing the wounds.
Working with Wounded Parts of the Heart
Working with parts (managers, firefighters, and exiles) is neither spooky nor scary. There is no hypnosis. You do not enter an altered state of mind. You do not lose control of yourself or your speech. Ministry happens through normal conversations and prayer. You are never asked to address anything that makes you uncomfortable or to deal with anything before you feel ready. We will not dictate truth to you. We do not position ourselves as if we are in authority over you. We work with your heart and the things that feel true to you.
Summary of the Basic Healing Process:
- Find and identify parts: Through a normal conversation, the compartments of your heart involved in each struggle will be identified. Your own normal conversation will usually reveal and distinguish between managers, firefighters, and exiles connected to a wound.
- Understand the emotions and beliefs connected to each part: Each compartmentalized part of your heart holds its own experience and its own beliefs. Sometimes those beliefs are different from the beliefs you have in your adult self. You will be given the chance to let each part of your heart express itself and anything and everything that feels important to you.
- Resolve any barriers to healing: Manager and firefighter parts can be protective and block access to childhood wounds or redirect conversation to something else. Sometimes, God feels judgmental, disconnected, or scary to parts of the heart that are stuck in the past. We lovingly explore and gently resolve issues that may prevent parts of the heart from entering into a freely-given, unpressured experience of the heart of God.
- Divine encounter: Once parts are understood and barriers to healing are resolved, we bring each need they have into the presence of God so you can receive the truth your heart has always needed from him. We want the truth to come from God because when God speaks, he does what a human cannot. He “creates” the truth he speaks within you.We find that God can speak to you heart directly or, at times, through the person helping you. One of the messages of Isaiah 40 is that the voice of God speaks through agents such as other people and angels. In ministry, we find that as long as the Holy Spirit delivers the truth, its impact will be the same. That said, if something we say does not feel true or resonate with you, we ask you to discard it without a second thought.
- Revisit original beliefs: Once the divine encounter is complete, we ask you to revisit the memories and/or beliefs that began the process. If the previous beliefs about yourself no longer feel true, the wound is healed. If other facets of the wound remain, then there are additional beliefs that need addressing. We will do so until you feel free and at peace in this part of your heart.
